FRAGRANT FLOWER

Fragrant Flower, puts forward a proposal for the conception of an interactive retail environment. Situated in Coal Drops, London, it specialises in perfume, skincare and body products. This project is an experiential journey where past and present come to life through the olfactory and tactile experience in a harmonised manner. The space operates in a cyclical manner, encompassing the history, continuity, experience, creation, personalisation and return of perfumes.

The lack of knowledge of craftsmanship in perfume globally is a vital reason for the creation of Fragrant Flower. The utilisation of perfumery products by consumers is a daily occurrence, yet the process of their creation is often not understood. In order to address this knowledge deficit, Fragrant Flower has incorporated a workshop facility that allows customers to formulate their own perfume. This initiative provides an interactive learning experience of perfume's history and origins. The project combines education, craftsmanship and body care in a modern retail setting, due to the limited retail options in Coal Drops Yard.

In order to preserve the original brick-built architecture in Coal Drops Yard, adaptive reuse and materials have a vital role. The structure is intended to respect and protect the building, whilst creating a modern and balanced shopping environment. Sustainability empowers consumers to determine materials and to consume responsibly, principally through the exclusive use of organic perfumes. Traditionally, perfume making involved the use of natural elements such as oils and extracts, while in today’s perfume making, there is the application of synthetic elements. Sustainability is crucial to achieve a sustainable design that adds meaning to the place. This methodology establishes a relationship characterised by consciousness, significance and sustainability over time, between the customer, the product and the environment.
